It seems to be ready. The bowl is darker but the cloth is paler. It is hanging in the house so that I can finally decide if it needs anything more. Otherwise it will go out to a gallery for the world to see. I am very happy with the composition and the colours are making my mouth water. All in all, good.

It has been a very rainy day out so I have been shut happily in my studio working on this painting. It is moving on quite well but not quite ready yet. I have been using my big palette knives with lots of juicy paint. I like to catch the painting unawares, so it has been turned to the wall for a few days. I can see better what is needed when it is back on the easel. Some of the blooms have changed colour to aid a better balance.
Started to add a little more paint using the palette knives, draw into the work with oil bar and pencil and add a little more background. I like how it is going, I must try not to over load it just yet. The shape and feeling of the work is good.
I have moved on a bit, adding more oil in a thin wash. Building up the paint slowly, using a wide flat brush, a round brush plus starting to use oil bars. No palette knife used yet, for fear of messing up the composition. At this stage the work is like underpainting, getting ready for the delicious adding of thick paint in an impasto way.
