I have been approached by a lovely woman, Leslie Sharp, who is President of CME, integrating art into medical education based in Lumberton, NJ, USA. Because she saw that I had been diagnosed with Bladder Cancer, she wondered what help my art had in my ability to cope with the shock and upset. And, of course, Peter had been diagnosed with Bowel Cancer two years' previously so we had a double whammy . With Leslie posing questions, I was able to stand back and realise that my actual time painting, with my delicious oils, the smell, the touch(messy), was balm to my troubled body, enabling me to move away from physical problems. My studio was something of a refuge and I worked with great gusto.
She has chosen one of my paintings to go into a Bladder Cancer Educational Programme, along with my thoughts and ideas. I am very excited about this and have thoroughly enjoyed looking back over this period of time, very cathartic. Also I feel I have met a great woman, Leslie, and hope our friendship grows.
