Am exhibiting at the Twenty Twenty in the Early Summer Landscapes Show. As always Mary and Hugh hang the work perfectly, some of my work is in the window of the gallery. Hooray. She of my work has already sold, double hooray. twenty-twenty.co.uk and all will be revealed. It is great meeting the other Artists at the Open Evening. Mind you it was pouring with rain and hailing. This was 19th May, I expect better weather by now in the year.

Had a wonderful hour with The Small Boy, four and a half, in the studio. He chose what colours he wanted and had a great time with brushes and palette knives. He was adamant he wanted no help, except replenish his palette . It is a delight to watch a person painting with no inhibitions. After some messy while he decided 'Well that's finished' and went off to play with his cars, or was it football, I can't remember. Anyway I was knackered!
I am exhibiting at www.auberginefineart.co.uk this April and May. The Gallery is in Wimbledon and I have been with them for many years. Three of the works are on my website. Blue Vases, Summer Flower Bed and The Cutting Bed. Their phone number is 0208 947 7838, they are open every day.
This painting was bought by a Collector who lives in Henley on Thames. She is a fond lover of my work, so it is great to see the painting in situ.
This is a wonderful drawing of the photo of the new baby sister in the womb, by Fred, 4, who has seen the picture. I told you children can make marks with great ease, and I certainly could not have done better. He loves doing his drawings and can write his name very well. I must get his Mother to sign the Portrait. We are all very excited by this new person to our family.
I have been making lots of mess in the studio and the paintings are starting flow with not too much struggle. I work with a mirror opposite my easel so that I can turn and see the reflection of what I am doing. It gives a good perspective and can show glaring mistakes, some of which I love and keep in the finished work. There are many Vases of Flowers, landscapes and gardens moving off my palette knives and brushes. I will post them on the site soon. I have used masses of paint and am trying out a new paint and will let you know how I get on with it. Great that February is looking bright and sunny now, hooray. I have been back in the studio for 3 weeks. Christmas was a busy time with family and grandchildren. Small boy in his first Nativity Play. He is 4 and played a sheep, a particularly vigorous one, but if I may say so he gave the part his all, certainly singing lustily. Small Beatrix, nearly 2, had us all to attention and sorted. She is a very formidable small girl, but a delight. Ava, 9, looks after her two siblings with purpose, no slacking.
My work in the studio is sometimes accompanied by one or two of the grandchildren, who turn out amazing artwork at the drop of a hat. Very frustrating when it takes me weeks or even months. The break over Christmas was good, but I always long to be covered in paint again. I am trying out more spontaneous ways with the oil paint. Very satisfying, but rather worrying. I have an exhibition coming up in April at Aubergine in Wimbledon. Off to seeTwenty-Twenty in Much Wenlock this week. The Lion Gallery in Leominster sold masses over the Christmas period, so I am feeling very happy. I am showing my artwork at two Galleries shortly. As part of hArt in Herefordshire, I will be showing at The Lion Gallery in Leominster, Tel: 01568 612651. It is a really charming gallery with a wonderful cross section of artwork, run by Andrea with great zeal. Some of the pieces chosen are on my Gallery Page. The Exhibition will be showing for the whole of September.
The other Exhibition starts on the 5th October at Aubergine Art, Wimbledon, London, Tel: 0208 947 7838, www.aubergineart.co.uk, a great modern gallery with an edgy variety of work. My contact is Dorothea, one of the owners, who is absolutely great and always kind to her artists. I will put more of the work showing here in a week or so, it is still drying. I have been approached by a lovely woman, Leslie Sharp, who is President of CME, integrating art into medical education based in Lumberton, NJ, USA. Because she saw that I had been diagnosed with Bladder Cancer, she wondered what help my art had in my ability to cope with the shock and upset. And, of course, Peter had been diagnosed with Bowel Cancer two years' previously so we had a double whammy . With Leslie posing questions, I was able to stand back and realise that my actual time painting, with my delicious oils, the smell, the touch(messy), was balm to my troubled body, enabling me to move away from physical problems. My studio was something of a refuge and I worked with great gusto.
She has chosen one of my paintings to go into a Bladder Cancer Educational Programme, along with my thoughts and ideas. I am very excited about this and have thoroughly enjoyed looking back over this period of time, very cathartic. Also I feel I have met a great woman, Leslie, and hope our friendship grows. |
