I will be exhibiting at this gallery In Wimbledon during June. I have not shown my work there for sometime, but Dorothea, Gallery Owner with her Husband James, made contact and Dorothea and I had a delightful morning deciding which of my pieces to put in the exhibition. It will be great to be on the outskirts of London again and lets hope a new generation will come and look at what I have to offer, as well as those showing at the same time. She chose, Gilded Pale Blue Vase, Spotty Vase, Turquoise Cloth, Gilded Vase and Small Bouquet, all of which are showing on the gallery page.

As you will see from the paintings at the moment on the site, I am obsessed with the flower Echinacea. They grow in the garden of two friends and collectors of my art work. I love the way they grow so neatly and then splash their petals outwards before eventually drooping down. It seems to go well with my vigorous use of the palette knife, and I can sweep the knives, small and very large, with lots of paint on to the canvas. There may be many more of these to come!
It was and extremely wet Saturday and we had a rather hair-raising journey across Shropshire to get to the Gallery for 10 am. The Gallery looked absolutely fantastic, Mary had the walls painted a lovely grey to show my work to its best ability. It was a great day, I gave a small talk about how I went to Art College in my middle years and then explained how I went about starting a painting, moved it on and finished it. The Collectors and Friends seemed appreciative, and although I was a bit nervous, I could have rattled on much longer than the 1/2 hour. The day was taken up with chatting to people and, of course, to Mary the Gallery owner. I spent the day there until 4 pm and we then started off home through floods and tempest. A bit overexciting.
Sunday the next day, I was exhausted, so much so I had a 2 1/2 hour nap in the afternoon. Half the paintings have sold so far in the Gallery so, hooray. This is one of the paintings for an Exhibition of my work at Twenty Twenty Gallery in Much Wenlock. It starts on February 6th, 2016, and I will be there all day on the Saturday. I will be giving a Perch Talk about how I work and my influences. at 10.30 am. I think I shall take along my messy painters smock and some of my tools. I hope people will be interested and ask questions, which will hopefully stop me being nervous. Lets hope that some do come along to listen!! I am really looking forward to it and have been working masses to produce 20 works. See you there. The last blog was about Carol and Alan commissioning The Lane, and now the painting has the best accolade. Erin, 4, came to see her Grandma, Carol, and said " Ooooo Grandma that's rather lovely". I love that art appreciation starts at a young age, and Erin obviously has a good 'eye'!! She is wanting to touch the painting but it could do with a bit longer to finally dry out. I expect she will have a little go when no one is looking.
Went over today to hang The Lane, commissioned by Carol and Alan. Carol definitely wanted red in the painting, it is one of her favourite colours. The painting looks very happy in their sitting room and it always makes me feel happy to see where my paintings eventually sit. I had a yummy piece of ginger cake and great coffee. My husband came over with me to hang the painting, he and Alan did measuring up and the 'to you, to me' and finally the painting had the right place to be.
It was a really lovely day at Art at Goring. Lots of old friends came to support me and I met a few Collectors who owned many of my paintings. I had a very swollen head even though I was very tired at the end of the day. Sarah had hung the paintings beautifully and many sold, to old Collectors and new. We stayed with friends we have known for 45 years, so it was an extremely lovely weekend. Now I am back in the studio painting feverishly. As you can see there is Beatrix, Me and Claire in front of one of my paintings.
I am getting very excited about my exhibition at Art at Goring, starting on Saturday 20th June. I will be there from 10.30 am - 4 pm, and look forward to meeting Collectors and Friends. It has been a frantic but wonderful time in my studio, working hard but lovely things have happened with the paint as the canvases moved along. As you know I work on many paintings at the same time, enabling me to stand back and see where any daubs of my brush or knife would work. One canvas on the easel and the others dotted round the studio, very messy and I get covered in oil, yummy. Each painting taking its turn to be worked on.
24 paintings in total of all sizes. Some on the site and I will change them over the weeks of the exhibition. |
